As               most               people               are               aware               by               now,               the               poverty-stricken               country               of               Haiti               was               rocked               by               a               devastating               earthquake               on               January               12,               2010,               killing               estimated               hundreds               of               thousands               of               people               and               leaving               millions               injured               and/or               homeless.

According               to               Earthquake               Facts,               this               earthquake               measured               a               7.0               on               the               Richter               Scale,               with               its               epicenter               near               the               heavily               populated               capital               city               of               Port               au               Prince.

In               response               to               this               horrible               tragedy,               people               worldwide               have               been               donating               time,               money,               and               needed               items               to               various               organizations.

Here               are               some               ways               that               people               can               help               those               in               Haiti.

Keep               in               mind               that               when               donating               to               any               charity,               do               your               own               research               to               make               sure               that               your               money               is               going               where               you               would               like               for               it               to               go.
               Phones               for               Haiti               is               an               organization               that               will               collect               your               unwanted               cell               phones               to               refurbish               and               resell.

Some               of               the               proceeds               from               donated               phones               will               go               to               the               American               Red               Cross.

For               more               specific               information               about               this               program               and               to               learn               how               to               donate               your               old               phones,               please               visit               the               website.
               Monetary               donations               to               the               American               Red               Cross               can               be               made               through               the               organization's               website               by               clicking               here               or               by               texting               "Haiti"               to               "90999".

If               you               use               a               cellular               phone               service               participating               in               the               program,               this               text               will               allow               you               to               make               a               $10               donation               that               will               be               added               to               your               phone               bill.

Some               of               the               participating               carriers               are               Alltel,               Verizon               Wireless,               Virgin               Mobile,               AT&T,               nTelos,               Sprint,               T-Mobile,               U.S.

Cellular,               and               Cricket.
               The               William               J.

Clinton               Foundation               has               set               up               a               "Haiti               Relief               Fund"               through               which               donations               can               be               made               online               here               or               by               texting               "HAITI"               to               "20222".

The               $10               donation               by               text               will               be               charged               to               your               phone               bill.
               Doctors               Without               Borders               had               teams               already               in               Haiti               who               witnessed               the               effects               of               the               earthquake               first-hand               on               January               12,               according               to               their               website.

By               donating               online               to               their               Emergency               Relief               Fund               here,               your               funds               will               go               towards               medical               programs               in               Haiti               and               other               areas               facing               medical               crises.
               The               humanitarian               organization               CARE               is               working               to               get               water               purification               supplies               to               the               people               of               Haiti.

They               hope               to               soon               be               able               to               distribute               food               and               shelter-related               items               such               as               mosquito               nets               and               bedding.

               Hope               for               Haiti               has               been               able               to               get               75,000               pounds               of               supplies               as               well               as               several               medical               professionals               to               a               hospital               site               near               the               capital               of               Haiti.
