About 'old medical equipment'|...someone. The law should be to allow safe reasonable abortions that follow good sound medical (not right wing partial birth and ugly term that doesn’t even apply terms) ...








Have               the               Hickory               Police               discovered               something               identifiable               in               the               Zahra               Clare               Baker               case?

CNN               reported               Tuesday               that               authorities               investigating               the               disappearance               of               the               10-year-old               North               Carolina               girl               have               requested               medical               records               from               North               Carolina               and               her               place               of               birth,               Australia.

Police               in               North               Carolina               have               been               in               contact               with               Zahra's               biological               mother               as               well.

Investigators               remain               tight-lipped               about               the               case,               however,               and               it               is               unclear               why               authorities               have               requested               the               records.

"We're               in               the               process               of               getting               medical               information               from               Australia,               and               we're               in               the               process               of               getting               medical               records               here,"               Hickory's               deputy               police               chief,               Clyde               Deal,               said               Monday.
               Although               authorities               have               not               been               forthcoming               about               their               need               for               the               medical               records,               it               is               common               for               medical               records               to               be               used               in               identifying               abnormalities               or               damage               done               to               bones,               scars,               or               teeth.

Hickory               Police,               the               lead               in               the               investigation,               shifted               the               focus               of               their               investigation               from               that               of               a               missing               person               to               homicide               on               Tuesday,               Oct.

12,               three               days               after               Zahra               was               reported               missing.
               Investigators               are               uncertain               of               the               particular               circumstances               of               the               separation               of               Zahra's               parents,               but               Deal               said               that               they               have               been               in               regular               contact               with               the               child's               mother.
               "She's               very               concerned,"               Deal               said,               "and               she's               very               appreciative               of               everything               being               done               to               solve               this               case."
               Adam               Baker,               Zahra's               father,               has               been               cooperative               in               the               investigation               as               well,               Deal               noted.

"Every               time               we               ask               him               to               be               somewhere,               he's               there."
               Elisa               Baker,               however,               has               not.

Aside               from               confessing               to               writing               a               fake               ransom               note,               the               stepmother               has               remained               relatively               quiet.
               The               ransom               note               was               discovered               by               Hickory               officers               responding               to               a               yard               fire               at               the               Bakers'               residence               about               10               hours               before               the               child               was               reported               missing.

Attached               to               the               windshield               of               a               vehicle               in               the               yard,               it               demanded               a               million               dollars               from               Adam's               employer,               Mark               Coffey,               for               his               daughter,               whom               the               writer               claimed               to               have               kidnapped.

Police               quickly               ascertained               that               the               family               was               unharmed.
               But               no               one               checked               on               Zahra               Baker.
               Adam               told               authorities               the               afternoon               of               Oct.

9               that               his               wife,               Elisa,               had               heard               his               daughter               cough               from               her               bedroom               at               around               2:30               a.m.,               about               two               and               a               half               hours               before               the               yard               fire.

But               besides               being               seen               by               her               father               and               stepmother,               Zahra               had               not               been               seen               by               anyone               outside               her               home               for               weeks.

Investigators               were               working               on               the               assumption               that               she               may               have               been               missing               for               a               month               when               employees               at               a               Hickory               furniture               store               came               forward               Friday               and               revealed               they               had               seen               the               10-year-old               and               her               stepmother,               Elisa,               in               the               store               on               Sept.

25,               two               weeks               before               she               was               reported               missing.
               Not               knowing               exactly               when               Zahra               Baker               was               last               seen               has               proved               problematic               in               searches               for               the               child.

Those               efforts               have               spanned               three               counties,               encompassing               the               Bakers'               residence               in               Hickory,               a               property               used               by               Adam's               employer               to               store               tree-trimming               equipment,               and               former               homes               of               the               Bakers               and               of               Elisa               before               she               married               the               Australian,               whom               she               met               online.
               Cadaver               dogs               have               been               employed               in               the               searches               and               have               been               reportedly               alerted               to               two               vehicles               on               the               Baker               property,               plus               a               wood               chipper               and               mulch               pile               on               the               property               in               Burke               County.

They               were               brought               back               to               the               Baker               residence               on               Friday.

Hickory               Police               were               observed               removing               a               garbage               bag,               a               mattress               and               set               of               box               springs               from               the               house.

Authorities               refused               to               say               whether               or               not               anything               of               interest               was               found.
               No               arrests               have               been               made               in               connection               to               Zahra               Baker's               disappearance,               although               Elisa               has               become               a               person               of               interest               since               confessing               to               the               ransom               note               fabrication.

She               was               arrested               the               day               before               the               confession               on               unrelated               charges,               including               writing               bad               checks               and               making               threats.

Hickory               Police               charged               her               with               obstruction               of               justice               for               writing               the               ransom               note.
               Adam               Baker               has               not               been               named               a               person               of               interest               and               remains               uncharged,               although               CNN               reported               that               he,               too,               was               wanted               for               writing               bad               checks.
